Building a very simple dynamic animation template in After Effects

Introduction

1. Create a new Composition in AfterEffects:

  • Length: 2 seconds
  • Resolution: 1920x1080
  • Frame rate: 25fps.

2. Creating a rounded rectangle

  • Double-click the rounded rectangle tool in the toolbar to create a rectangle.
  • Choose a color and disable the contour by holding Alt and clicking the contour color field.
  • Open the attributes of your rectangle and adjust the scale and corner roundness.

3. Creating a dynamic text layer

  • Select the text tool from the toolbar and drag a box shape for your text.
  • Type your default text and set font properties.
  • Rename the text layer to _text.

4. Add Markers to separate your timeline

  • Create a marker at the start (00:00:00) with a 25 frames duration and another marker at the end (00:01:00) with a 25 frames duration.
  • Name them start and stop respectively.

5. Add In and Out Animations

  • Open the position parameter by hitting P.
  • Add position keyframes at the beginning and end of the stop marker.
  • Adjust the positions of layers to be outside the viewport at the start and end.
  • Apply "Easy Ease" to the keyframes for smooth animation.

6. Check if it works

  • Play your timeline to see the animation.

Finished!

Your text layer _text is dynamic, and your template has in and out animations
